Marks

Marks are the actual grade values that will be shown on the students’ report cards. When you create your marks, it’s important to verify the following settings to ensure that students’ marks are counted towards their GPA:

·         Include in GPA must be checked.

·         You need to separate values per class level.

·         You need a value for each letter grade (e.g. A=4, B=3, etc.)

To set up your marks, navigate to Code Setup > School > Academic > Grading > Marks.

Info Tab:

To add a new mark, select the  icon and complete the following fields (where fields are required).

Field Name

Description

Code

The code is the mark that the student will receive. For example, E, VG, G, F, or S.

A description of this mark (letters and numbers accepted), which appears in the grade-entry portal (accessible via a drop-down list). For example, excellent, very good, good, fail or satisfactory.

Select this field if the mark represents a failing grade.

Enable this field if the mark counts towards the student’s GPA.

Sort

The mark order (i.e. where it appears on the list) within the grade-entry portal.

Numeric Value

Value assigned to this mark, which is used for calculating averages. For example, A+ is equal to 100.

Grading Level

Classes can be set to different grading levels. For example, you can set a grading level for an honors class, for which marks will generally have a higher numeric value.

For example, a standard class’s A mark may be assigned a numeric value of 95; whereas, the same A mark has a numeric value of 100 in the honors class.

Grade Scheme

A group of marks must have a scheme, and every class must be matched to a scheme.

For example:

·         Add marks of 1-100 and assign to an A scheme. Then give all lower division classes a scheme of A.

·         Create a group of marks A, B, C, etc. and assign them to scheme B. Then, give all effort and behavior classes a scheme of B so that the marks will be available in the drop-down lists for those classes.

You can also have the same marks in a few different schemes. For example, Scheme D might be 0-65 and an F.
